Medical Marijuana Strains in Van Nuys

If you are a stickler for facts, it is interesting to note that most scientists are still arguing whether there really are several species of cannabis or if the marijuana strains we have come to know in the Van Nuys area are just the same species separated only by geography.

This is a moot point for smokers and marijuana patients as we are only interested in the medical properties of the marijuana plant – not its genetics.

There are 3 known varieties of marijuana: Indica, Sativa, and Ruderalis.

Of these, the indica and sativa varieties of medical marijuana are the most common in the Van Nuys area.

Differences in Source

Cannabis Indica strains such as Master Kush, Purple Bubba and Northern Lights often thrive in Southern Asia (Afghanistan, Tibet, India, Pakistan, etc.)

Sativas - like Panama Red, Blue Cheese, Blue Dragon and Jungle Love – on the other hand grow along the equator (Mexico, Colombia, Thailand, Jamaica, etc.)

Ruderalis strains can be found in the wilds of Europe and central Asia. Thus, being uncommonly obtainable for the people of Van Nuys, this strain of marijuana will not be further discussed.

Difference in the plants physical appearance

Indica strains are shorter and has a fuller growth with more closely spaced branches (bushier) when compared to sativa, which can be seen as tall and gangly, with a few branches spread out.

Difference in effect

Although different strains affect different people differently and preferences often play a large factor in selecting the strain suitable to your medical condition, the strains of medical marijuana can be differentiated thus:

  • Indica gives an almost pleasant buzz felt all throughout ones body. They are great for relaxation and insomnia. Some strains of indica with THC content enable users to simply sit and enjoy the medical marijuana experience.
  • Sativa gives an energetic high and is said to be a natural upper. It affects the brain in such a way that you feel happier (or at least optimistic). Its inebriating qualities offer a good amount of pain relief for some conditions. Some sativas have a relatively high amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).THC has been shown to increase appetite and decrease nausea in cancer and AIDS patients. Osteo patients use it to help with pain and spasms.

Difference in usage

People in Van Nuys, looking for medical marijuana should know that different strains are best suited for different applications.

Sativas are often smoked straight while indicas are best made into hashish (dried) and kief (ground).

Hybrids

There are also many known hybrids whose application, effects and strengths often derive from the parent plants they have been cultivated from.
